Over the years Soke Browne has developed a strong armoury of techniques and practices designed specifically for street defence. He understands how important it is that you feel confident when you’re out on the streets, particularly at night. When you’ve been spending time learning self-defence skills, you’re more alert and more self-aware, making you less vulnerable to unwelcome attention.

Soke Browne (10th Dan) is the founder and chief instructor (Shodai Soke) of the Browne Budo Ryu Kempo Jujitsu self-defence system. With decades of experience, he has taught Kempo Jujitsu across 15 countries worldwide and has been inducted into multiple international martial arts Halls of Fame, recognising his contribution to the art.
Today, Soke Browne runs Jujitsu training across four London locations — Newham, Woolwich, Bermondsey, and Pimlico. His focus is on creating a welcoming, supportive environment where students of all levels can build confidence, develop real-world self-defence skills, and progress toward their personal goals.

Kempo Jujitsu is a practical martial art that combines striking (Kempo) and grappling techniques (Jujitsu). It's designed for real-world self-defence, teaching you how to protect yourself in a variety of situations.
Our classes are inclusive and welcoming to all genders. Self-defence is for everyone. Classes are available for people aged 16+.

Safety is a top priority. All techniques are taught step-by-step with control and supervision. Like any physical activity, there’s a risk of minor bumps, but injuries are very rare.
Comfortable gym clothes (t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms or shorts) are fine to start. If you continue, we’ll guide you on how to get a uniform (gi).

Absolutely! Our classes are beginner-friendly, and we pride ourselves on being welcoming and supportive. No experience or fitness level is required to start.
Not at all! You'll build fitness as you go. Everyone starts somewhere, and our classes are structured to help you improve your strength, flexibility, and confidence at your own pace.
